Questions to ask to discover the good quality of nanny
If you are looking for someone to look after your child in your home, look for a nanny with a kind, peaceful nature who usually moves slowly.
A friendly, upbeat, energetic person is great for a four-year-old, but can he slow down enough to take care of a baby? Ask the nanny and listen to what she has to say. If her childhood was happy, this, of course, is a good sign.
Of course, it is impossible to get to know someone well during a short meeting. However, ask a few questions at the first interview that will help you understand if the potential nanny’s personal style of childcare is consistent with yours:
- How will you put the baby in the crib for daytime sleep?
- What if he cries after you put him to bed? What are you going to do?
- If he hasn’t finished his portion, what will you do?
- If my child takes something from another child, what will you do?
Determine what you want from a nanny
This is very important in order to set the format for your relationship. If you want a person to act as an incoming auxiliary tool in the process of raising your child (for example, you invited a tutor who helps a schoolboy with homework), then expect that there will be a formal and rather alienated relationship between you and the nanny (came, fulfilled his function, gone). In this case, do not expect that a person will show special tenderness and compassion for your child.
Do not hire a person from the street whose services cost a penny
Everything you need to know about a nanny. We do not consider it superfluous to equip the house with video cameras. Let the nanny think that they are even in the toilet! We don’t want to face in practice those terrible cases that are told in the crime chronicle.
Of course, you can contact the agency, and collect all the ins and outs for a nanny, but, you know, even a good agency will not give a 100% guarantee.
The only thing that cannot be categorically done is to hire a stranger who says that he will sit with a child for three kopecks. You must understand that free cheese is only in a mousetrap.
Notice
Remember, you are the employer, and the nanny is the job seeker. This means that you must discuss absolutely all the conditions of cooperation with the person: what kind of schedule will the nanny have, what exactly will the nanny do, what is her functionality, how will her vacation be paid, how will she deal with the child, where to go with the baby and etc.
So what should a nanny be like? What should be taken into account when choosing it? First of all, from the interests of the child.
Each mother has a certain set of qualities that any nanny should have, i.e. a woman involved in raising a child, replacing her for a while.
It should always be taken into account that the specifics of working in a family require certain personal qualities. Not everyone, even a talented teacher or a good creche teacher, will be able to work as a nanny in a family.
After all, working with a class or leading a creche group is not the same as an individual approach to a particular child, taking into account his personal qualities and needs. Then, the work of a nanny in a family is not only normalized and planned classes or lessons, but living with a child his life in all the subtleties of its manifestations.
But it is especially important for the worker to have the ability to be sensitive to the requirements of each member of the family of this child, also perceiving the whole family as a whole and the child as an individual.
There are examples when teachers, wise in their experience of working with children, could not work as nannies.
And there are good examples of women without special (pedagogical) education, who have become excellent specialists. The main thing in this difficult matter is that your child (and you too!) feel comfortable with the nanny.
